Natural Protected Areas of Piedmont's
The Natural Park of Val Troncea has been instituted in 1980 for safeguarding the natural characteristics of the superior part of the Chisone's basin: it extends on an area of 3280 hectares and it is encircled from tops that exceed 3000 meters in height. The vegetation is characterized from extended forests of larches and, to the higher quotas, from alpine meadows. The fauna comprehends the most representative alpine species: the variable hare, the steinbock, the chamois, the white pellet and, occasionall}/ the wolf. In 2000 it has been prepared a didactic museum in Pragelato where there are illustrated the historical and naturalistic characteristics of the valley. Besides, it is available one of the richest and most modernized scientific libraries of the province of Turin, beyond an herbarium and a scientific collection at disposition of students and investigators.
